Cabela's Depthmaster Reels?

philtheskipper Has anyone used or heard any thing about Cabela's Depthmaster reels? Good thing or bad?

J.B. Cornwell Hi, Phil. I am no expert on trolling reels, but nobody else has anything to offer. I have done trolling, in Lake MI and in the Gulf Stream, but prefer multi-purpose tackle, or at least multi-purpose reels on suitable or even specialized rods.

Cabelas rods for Dipsey Divers are suitable for all planers and strong enough in action to handle a big Chinook. I have used them casting medium large lures for Barracuda and Muskys. Where I diverge is that I troll with casting reels and count sweeps of the spool to determine how much line is out. I am an Ambassadeur fan and use several, depending on what I am after. For Chinook, dolphin, tuna and other pelagic species I favor the Morrum and Pro-Max 5600s and an old 7000. For walleye I like the 5000 and the rare Pro-Max 1600. I always use Dipsey Divers or Pink Ladies, not because they are better than downriggers, because they aren't, but because they are simple and adapt to a versatile, do-anything tackle inventory.

Hope that helps. . .some, at least.

Red sky at night. . .

Thanks for the info. I will be getting Cabela's Depthmaster Dipsey Rods with the reels and feel better now that I have heard positive comments from someone that has them. Thanks!
