Want a good fish finder. Any Ideas ?

Family Cruiser	Looking for a good fish finder moderate price, but simple to work. I'll be fishing mostly in the bay [salt water] in 50 ft. or less. The transducer will be mounted on back of boat not thru hull. Any one out there in love with their fish finder. I'm getting tired of my boys reply of "Dad where are the fish". Also will it show bottom fish like flounder and fluke ? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Dennis - FAMILY CRUISER	2001-09-06
J.B. Cornwell	Howdy, Cruiser. "Good" is a very relative term. I visit sites where the posters wouldn't consider anything less than a Furuno color unit with 480x480 pixel screen a "good" finder. For simple operation and reliability in under 300' water I like an Eagle FishEasy, but it has a 128 pixel screen and probably would have a hard time picking out fish on the bottom. For that I would prefer a 240x240 pixel unit with zoom and the ability to look only at the bottom few feet. The Eagle Acura 240, Garmin 240, or the Lowrance X65 or X85 would fill that bill. I don't know what you consider a moderate price. The FishEasy is under a hundred, the Lowrance X85 under $400 and the others I mentioned are between. I use a Lowrance X65 and an Eagle FishEasy on my boat. I am happy with both. Red sky at night. . . JB	2001-09-06
Chip	Family Cruiser: I like my Raytheon L365 very much. I fish Cape Cod Bay and like the fish depth feature a great deal. I consider it to be a "good" unit for my recreational fishing. It has a transom mounted transducer, a 240 pixel vertical matrix, a dual beam which allows 49 and 20 degree bottom coverage. It should be under$200 and gives speed and water temp. Chip	2001-09-06
T-290	I have purchased a Zercom Marine LPG 2000 liquid paper graph, and am very happy with the resolution and performance so far. It has 3200 watts peak to peak 2-600' depth capability 16 levels Grey scale, high speed transducer which can be mounted on transom or through the hull. The screen measures 3-1/2" x4-5/8" You can buy them everyday at a price of $599.00 but I know that they are selling them for $479.00 at "Reeds" sport and tackle in downtown Walker, Minnesota, while supplies last! They also have a LPG 1000 which has a smaller screen for a bit less, they will UPS to your door.	2001-09-09
mitch welch	You get what you pay for - a cheap unit will give you cheap results. Lowrance makes a good line. I'm not sure what moderate cost means to you, but if you want a good depth (fish) finder that you'll be happy with it's going to cost you a few bucks. Once again, check out the Lowrance line - I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.	2001-10-22
paintermn	I went with the Raytheon 265 with my new boat, same unit as Chips; but does not show boat speed or temp. (I get boat speed from GPS). It cost me $160.00 if I recall right. It seems to work great, but I don't think it would pick up a flounder. (Would any?) My thinking was: If Raytheon can build an atomic tipped cruise, they can build a dept finder.	2001-10-24

Pursuit2150	I've had an APELCO, Now Raymarine365 on 2 boats it is reasonably priced, has all the bells & whistles and alarms, Temperature, speed. I find it easy to scope the bottom 50Hz/200hz,wide/narrow beam, auto depth scale change, Transom Mt. Price around 200. Take a look at it at the local marine store. I now have it panel mounted, but it would replace it another one if it failed now 4 yrs. old.	2002-01-01
