What brand of Fish Finder do you have?

SS MAYFLOAT	I'm looking for a new finder/sounder. Haven't had the opportunity to check any out, and of course a fancy magazine ad just doesn't do it for me. Even in the stores looking at it doesn't mean nothing to me. I need friends like you all to guide me in the right direction. Don't want anything cheap, but however don't want anything expensive with all kinds of gadgets that you never use anyway. One touch operation would be nice. Do they have remote transducers eliminating the lead wire to the console? Just curious in what you have and how happy you are with them. I have tried to see if consumer reports had done a test on them, but couldn't find anything. Thanks	2001-09-19
J.B. Cornwell	Howdy Mayfloat. I am a Lowrance fan, which includes Eagles. I currently have a Lowrance X65 on my boat and an Eagle Supra-Pro ID on my son's boat. Both are good to 600' and pretty simple to operate. If you would like to go up a step from the X65, the Lowrance X85 is more powerful and has a higher resolution screen. Red sky at night. . . 12Footer	I agree. Lowrance makes the best. Garmin makes good ones too. Steer clear of Humminbird. In a word, they are TERRIBLE. Are you going to be in salt or fresh water? Just be aware that salt water requires more power, and lower frequencies for the same depths, and you will pick a useable finder...As long as it doesn't say Humminbird on the front of it	2001-09-23
paintermn	I have had eagle and Humminbird in the past, but have a Raytheon 265 on my new boat. I think that the Raytheon beats them all. I have used this unit for two months now, and I am very impressed. The 265 was a cheap unit at about $160.00, but it does not have a speed sensor or temp gauge. I get the speed from a gps anyway. SS MAYFLOAT	Thanks all, I do have an Eagle in my smaller boat, it has been installed in it for about the last 6 years, It hasn't failed me yet, (knock on wood). I only do freshwater for now until I get a big tow vehicle that can pull my rig to the coast without breaking down. For some reason when I first purchased my Eagle over Humminbird, I just didn't like the looks of them and they also looked confusing to operate. And a little bit of sense to the matter, Did you ever see a Humminbird pull a fish out of the water like an Eagle does? I do have an old Lowrance, I'm not even sure if it works. The cable from the transducer was shorted and broken, and the unit was disabled from the power supply. It is a Model LFG-175, is this going to be worth the effort to get repaired. I did hook it up to power, and you can hear the motor inside the unit running. I hooked up the transducer and at first when you turn it on, the indicator light on the needle will flash only just a micro second. How would a person check this unit out? Thanks again	2001-10-01
beernutz	Raytheon 365. Just bought it in June, but have been using the brand (Apleco) for over 15 yrs, without any problems. The screen gets awfully dark on this one after it's been out in the sun for a while, though. Had the same problem on my last one, too. Sent it in for repairs under warranty, and never had trouble again. Going to send this one back as well. Their turnaround time is acceptable. Tried Humminbird, but didn't have very good luck. May have just been the unit I had, though. Simple to operate. Never tried Lowrance, but they have a good name.	2001-10-01
