Facts on fish finders

waterwolf What is the most important thing to keep in mind before getting a new fish finder. I fish mostly fresh water and have about $200 to spend. #of pixels or peak power or???? Recommended brands. So far eagle is what looks the best to me..... Also do they really find fish or should they just be called depth finders? thanks Jim 2002-01-26
mccoyrl Both are important. More pixels will allow you to see more on your display. Don't waste your money on anything less than 240X240 pixels. Power is what will penetrate the water for returns to the sonar unit. Personally, save a few more pennies and buy yourself a good unit. The Garmin 240 is a good unit. Right now, the Zercom LPG 2000 which is a $600 unit is on sale on a couple of internet sites for $399. Try http://www.reedssports.com, they have a good variety, free shipping and excellent prices. Good luck! 2002-01-26
