What is my fish finder looking at?

Bbogey Used my Eagle Fish Easy II fish finder today for the first time...all I can say is COOL!!! Had no idea they worked that well.

My question is: How big a area is it looking at? I mean the screen shows depth and some fish (or not) but how big a area under my boat is it looking at?

My transducer is mounted on the transom.

THANKS!!!!

RJS BBOGEY,

The bottom area depends on the cone angle of the transducer and the depth of the water. (Turn an ice cream cone upside down and you'll see what I mean.) This info is may be in your manual.

Xenos Read this it will explain a lot.

Xenos RJS I loved that analogy, Using the upside down ice cream you can visually see how the bigger the cone angle the more blind spot on the bottom you have. IE. The bottom is say 10 feet but on the outside of the cone may be 12 feet from the boat but the sonar can’t decipher this other 2 feet so it will only show what is the actual ice cream and not what’s sitting just to the left or right of under the curved cone. That’s why pickerel fishermen prefer small cone angles. 2002-03-23
Pursuit2150 In addition to water depth there are 2 other factors, EX: at 50KHz,16deg beam;
at 200KHz,65deg beam.
at 16deg in 60'Water, you will see 15'of bottom:
at 65deg in 60'Water, you will see 70'of bottom.

BBogey Guys,

As always, THANKS! I enjoyed the site Xenos! I recently had my computer crash and lost everything. Someone here had directed me to a site once that showed all sorts of short "instruction videos" that were VERY helpful. IF anyone knows what I'm talking about, could you give me that site again?

THANKS!

gg I'll be getting the Eagle Fish Easy as part of a package from my dealer. Should I ask to upgrade to Fish Easy II? What's the advantage (larger area scanned)? 2002-03-24
BBogey Sorry, didn't mean to not get back to you, but have fought a computer that has crashed 3 times in 3 weeks...(new one today)

The Fish Easy II has temp, and I think the pixels are better? 240 as opposed to 160????

Good Luck!

Xenos The Fish easy 2 is based on their latest technology, Higher power, deeper resolution and a new Grayline that is getting close to the paper graph quality. You may even want to consider the Fish easy 2T as it comes with speed and temperature. With what ever upgrade you decide, the new technology in the Fish easy 2 appears far superior to the original Fish easy. 2002-03-30
Xenos OOPS, Fisheasy 2T does not include the speed sensor. 2002-03-30
