Depth finder problems

joncox	Humminbird LCR 3D My depth finder will turn on, after about 10 seconds, the display begins to fade out. I have checked the following and they have found to be good: battery connections fuse The radio and depth finder are fused to one wire that connects to the battery. When the depth finder sends a signal, I can hear a click in the radio. Do I have some sort of short in the wiring. It is difficult to get in there and see because the wiring is in tight spaces. I would appreciate any recommendations you may have.	2002-06-20

ebbtide176	1)know that HB is notorious for problems, whether they have realized it or not 2)if you don't get enough good info here, then use the 'search forum' link on 'Humminbird' for more. 3)it seems to me that HB has tried to resolve their past goofs. when I had a 200hdx digi indash go bad they fixed it + shipped a (free) voltage regulator with it back to me for standard bench fee. (@$35). what I later learned is the BPS (bassproshop) quit selling (maybe HB too) and just sold the 600hdx, which I also bought and works fine at all speeds for me. 4)some HB's seem to have a problem with fogging and over voltage/spikes/surges. so you might need an available 'surevolt' inline voltage regulator for @ $20 if your engine overcharges. 5)the radio noise might be cured with a choke coil in the power supply line. common problem with CB radios/amps feeding off same fuse as radio in cars... 8)your fading problem seems to indicate a power supply weakness, like a loose connection that is heating up/incr resistance. check for butt splices, joints that are heating up. or isolate problem by trying a (temp) heavier gauge wire (maybe 12) to feed the power (red) wire.. 9)if all else fails, hope for a reply from schematic or other more marine trained gurus to answer HTH hope this helps	2002-06-20
marty_scher	Don't have the book for my 160 extreme handy, but I think I read somewhere it will shut down if the input voltage exceeds a certain (but not extreme) level. Hope this helps.	2002-06-22
sandy	I've got the solution to your problem. Next time on the lake or wherever you go, disconnect the cables from your Humminbird, tie them together extremely tight, then tie a rope to the cable and toss it overboard for an anchor, then go buy an Eagle or Lowrance and fishing will become lots of fun.	2002-06-26
