Trolling Motor! Help!

Roland Betts	I am looking to buy a trolling motor for my bass baby. I don't what I need to get started. Do I need a battery? What do they mean by electric? I am looking for a trolling motor with a 30" short shaft and around a 30 lb. thrust. Please help and leave sites where I could get what I need. Thank you.	2003-01-29
Fishbusters	Yes you need a battery. Electric is just that it is electric which is why you need the 12 volt deep cycle battery. As to sites you can get them at the local Wal-Mart cheaper than anywhere else and as long as you go Minn Kota you will be fine. The shaft length is not all that important as long as it will reach the water in my opinion and I have always believed that the stronger the trolling motor the better up to the price you can afford. As far as options other than power I would go with as few as possible because that just means more to go wrong. I like a hand controlled motor mounted on the bow all you need to do is loosen the set screw and turn the head around 180 then retighten.	2003-01-29

dmessy	Hi Betts, is your "bass baby" a small 2 man boat or ? If it is, I have a Bass Hunter 10'x4' with a 34# Minn Kota on the front and a 1.5 HP Tanaka gas motor on the rear (complete with stick steering no less!). I used a transome (rear) mount trolling motor and just turned the head around like someone else suggested. Only downfall is if you hit an underwater object, there is no flex, so go with the composite shaft and keep your eyes open. I had to fiberglass repair the front mount when I let my buddy (who knew the water "like the back of his hand") run it and he smacked a stump Those small boat are awesome fishing machines for lakes, tanks and rivers, are very stable and practically unsinkable...have fun!	2003-01-29
